The Iasi Medical School, created in 1879, within the first modern University in the country, operates since 1990 as the University of Medicine and Pharmacy and bears the name of a world-renowned Professor of Anatomy, Grigore T. Popa, exceptional personality in the fields of science, education and political attitude. A successful academic medical career needs a fortunate congruence of personal abilities and motivations plus a modern institutional frame built on a respectable tradition, offering opportunities for personal developments in the forefront of medical and health sciences education and research. Internal medicine has an integrator diagnostic character, transmitted into therapy. These aspects are reflected in the holistic approach of the patient's pathology. If comorbidities approach is sectorial, through tertiary specialties-derived from internal medicine, it may appear the risk of iatrogenic complications and/or polypragmasia. By developing the English Medical Program arose the necessity of modern, up-to-date, didactical textbooks, mixing the current guidelines with professor’s experience. The present book is a teamwork between two groups of professionals, experts in medical activity, with experience in didactical approach of the medical topics. The authors from both 2nd Internal Medicine Clinic, “Sf. Spiridon” Emergency Clinic County Hospital and Cardiology Clinic, “Prof. Dr. George I.M. Georgescu” Cardiovascular Diseases Institute of Iasi, are involved in English Medical Program teaching process. The editorial team consists of Professors and Associate Professors responsible for internal medical lectures and conferences concerning the themes presented in the 4th year of studies in our university. Unification and keeping up-to-date the medical curricula are a key demand in modern medicine, strongly promoted by the U.M.F. Iasi Rector, Prof. h. Viorel Scripcariu, MD, PhD and Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. h. Ionela Lacramioara Serban, MD, PhD. The authors express their gratitude for their support and encouragements. The 4th year students may find in our didactical work the necessary support for internal medicine exams, with extended explanations and iconography. In many topics we preserve the general didactical approach of the previous medical books, ”Principles of Diagnosis in Internal Medicine” (2002) and, ”Medicina Interna” (2019), for a common medical conception in Internal Medicine, irrespective the language of teaching.
